“I just feel I need something, Rachel. Something away from this life and the army and I don’t know what.” Annie’s voice shook as she sat back down and looked searchingly into Rachel’s eyes. Rachel, in a rush as always, scooped her nail polish and mobile phone into her leather bag, stood up and kissed her friend on her head.

“Annie, is everything all right with you and Mike?” she asked, clearly concerned.

Annie was aware she had always appeared so happy and settled as an army wife. She had a reputation for being the one wife you could count on for support and guidance and the one who always had a cheery smile and a kind word. She didn’t doubt Rachel could sense that she was not herself but wasn’t sure how she could help.

“I just feel like I’m really being taken for granted, Rache,” Annie said, pulling her long blonde hair back into a scrunchie. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me... or us. I’m just getting more and more fed up with Mike spending so many hours at the Mess now he’s back on camp. It’s like he feels more comfortable there and not at home.” Annie held back her tears and swallowed as she looked at her reflection in the window. It’s like he’s forgotten the us we used to be and the awful thing is I think I have too, she thought sadly.

 Top Ten Books

My top ten favorite books are:

1.       Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I love to read all the Bronte sister’s books. Snuggled up on a winter’s night this is my kind of book to read. The romance between Jane and Mr. Rochester is so moving and real. It was first published in the 1800’s and is still as touching now as it was then.

2.       The Moon’s A Balloon by David Niven. I always loved David Niven as an actor, but the way he writes about his childhood, his military life and acting career is very amusing. I giggled through it and I never get bored of reading about his antics as a naughty school boy!

3.       The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. This book reminds me so much of my childhood and climbing into my grandmother’s old wardrobe waiting to step back into Narnia. Sheer magic. Fantasy for all ages in my opinion.

4.       Any Harold Robbins book. He has over 25 best sellers, now that is a feat.  As a young girl I used to sit on the floor by my parent’s bed and have a sneaky read. My father used to read a lot of his books and probably wouldn’t have been very happy to know I was having a cheeky read too. They were always VERY saucy and when his first book was released there was a lot of controversy about how graphic his sex scenes were written. Brilliant!

5.       Harvesting the Leaves by Mellina Barnett. I have always loved poetry and written a lot of poetry ever since I was a young girl. I stumbled across this book in a local boutique and was instantly attracted to it because of its pretty brown cover with falling gold leaves. The poems are not poetry rhyme, more like little stories/pro’s that are actually very spiritual about nature, life and the environment, all subjects close to my heart. It is also full of lovely illustrations – lovely.

6.       Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James. I do love her Christian Grey character and I think her saucy scenes are really well written. Fair play to her too for her huge success. This is my by the pool holiday read and I think she proved how much people enjoy reading erotic romance by the interest and sales.

7.       The Autobiography of a Flea and if I can remember it was by Anonymous. I borrowed this from a girlfriend who had taken it from her brother’s naughty reading collection. It is a story narrated by a tiny flea that lives in a bed. He shares all that he see’s in the bedroom. Based in the 1800’s it is a very sexy, saucy and graphic read full of sexual encounters. For a fourteen year old girl it was a real eye opener and I have never forgot that …lol

8.        Any Charles Dickens books but two come to mind as my favorite’s, both of which made stunning movies too, Great Expectations and Oliver Twist. Oh I do love these stories.  Dickens is the master of capturing the imagination with his descriptions of places and people. Even his characters names are pure genius. His books are classics and I never tire of reading them.

9.       Riders and Polo by Jilly Cooper. I was very flattered recently by a reader of The English Officer’s Wife writing to me to say that they thought my style of writing was similar to hers. Both books are such an easy, uncomplicated read and I love her characters. Being a keen horsewoman these stories really appeal to me too.

10.   Jackie Collins, Hollywood Wives. Another super holiday read. Sex mixed with glamour, this book has it all. Jackie is one of the best at erotic romance, and this book has it, oozing with sex, money and gossip.

Melody Stone was born in London but for most of her life has lived in the Country. A keen horsewoman, she raced thoroughbreds in her twenties, winning her first flat race in public. Melody enjoys writing not only erotic romance stories, but also poetry, blogs and magazine articles.
