Posted by BookGroupies

About DEEP IN THE MEADOWS: Bianca “Bee” Thompson’s brother, Jimmy has been dead for ten months, yet she still feels his presence lingering. And one question haunts her: Was Jimmy’s death an accident?

Probing into the events on the night of Jimmy’s death, Bee hears strange voices. The voices lead her to a blood-splattered room, a terrifying threat, and a deadly trap. Is Bee on the trail of her brother’s murderer, or is she entangled in a totally different and much more diabolical plot?

About Lisa M. Cronkhite: Midwest Author Lisa M. Cronkhite’s love for writing started when she was a teen, journaling of her torrid romance with her first boyfriend then and now husband of over two decades. She picked up writing again after her first bipolar episode and psychotic break when her doctor recommended it as a coping skill. Once again, with pencil in hand, Lisa dove herself into crafting poetry. Through the years, Lisa has published her poems in print and online magazines such as Poetry Repairs, Grey Sparrow Press, Sacramento Poetry Center, Poetry Salzburg Review and many more. Lisa also has short stories in magazines like Suspense Magazine and YA Fiction magazine Suddenly Lost in Words.

Her novels include Dreaming a Reality, Demon Girl and Deep in the Meadows. Disconnected is her fourth novel. Lisa is currently working on her next novel, Purple Haze.

Pet and Mental Illness

If you know me by now, you’ll know I suffer from a mental illness. And yes, I most definitely write as a coping mechanism. But what also helps me tremendously are my pets, both my dog and my cat.

There are times when I’m completely down in the dumps, so much so, I can barely get out of bed. But on these days, both my pets are very keen to it and are at my side at all times. Both Bruce (my boxer/shepherd) and Stormy (my gray tabby) show me much love and attention any great creature can give. Stormy helps me to relax and be calm. Sometimes when I’m feeling frisky, we’ll play string. He’s nine years young and shows it! And with Bruce, we sometimes go for peaceful walks during the day. He helps me soak up the moment, helps me center myself and realize I am here and in the living.

There are countless things that both my pets help me with to live a healthier lifestyle. Just knowing they are there for me, loving me unconditionally, I am able to get out of bed and care for them.  My kids are older now and they aren’t around much, but with my pets, I have two furry kids that need me too.

There are so many wonderful animals out there just waiting to be loved and cared for. It breaks my heart to see them suffering. All they want is one simple thing—a friend. And if you can be a friend to them, I guarantee that you will be much rewarded for it.

If you can’t own a pet, I highly recommend sharing one of your family or friend’s pets. Maybe be a dog walker, or work in a pet shop or volunteer at an Animal Welfare Shelter. You may to find out that a furry friend is just the thing you need.
